Better Custody is a documentation app for crypto-asset custody. It requires no user account and includes no advertising, analytics, tracking, or social-media SDKs.

On-device processing

Every user-entered text value is encrypted with CryptoKit and AES-256-GCM before SwiftData stores it. Only technical option IDs, relationships, ordering, sequence numbers, and timestamps remain plaintext. The data key is wrapped by a device-bound key in Apple Keychain.

Better Custody requires Face ID or Touch ID when the app starts, immediately before all data is reset, and before iCloud synchronization is enabled or disabled. There is no device-passcode fallback. The operating system processes biometric characteristics; the app never receives biometric data or biometric images.

Optional iCloud synchronization

iCloud is off at first launch. If the user explicitly enables synchronization, already encrypted records are stored through Apple CloudKit in iCloud.com.bettercustody.app. The corresponding key is synchronized through iCloud Keychain. Apple processes this data under the terms of the user's iCloud account.

If the synchronized key is unavailable, Better Custody does not generate a new key over existing data. It enters recovery instead. When sync is disabled, the cloud copy and synchronized wrapper remain for other devices, while a device-bound wrapper protects the same data key on the current device. Stored fields do not need to be re-encrypted.

Camera, clipboard, and PDF

The camera is used only after a user action for live QR-code recognition of wallet addresses, xPubs, and wallet descriptors. There is no OCR, non-QR image analysis, or photo import.

Copied secrets are written only to the local clipboard and expire quickly. Unprotected PDF previews stay only in memory. Only the final file selected for sharing is written temporarily with complete iOS file protection and then cleaned up.

No other transfers

Better Custody does not connect to blockchains, exchanges, tax services, or our own servers. Content is not used for advertising, profiling, or product analytics, and personal data is not sold.

Deletion and rights

The explicitly confirmed data reset can delete either all data on the current device only or both the local data and all Better Custody data in the user's private CloudKit database. A complete iCloud reset also removes the synchronized encryption key. In both cases, Better Custody clears its settings and returns to onboarding.
